Strengthening Transactional Integrity: How LFB Eliminated Duplicate Transaction Risks with Eastnets Messaging Duplicate Detection 5.x

Situation

Security, accuracy and operational resilience

Libyan Foreign Bank (LFB), a leading financial institution in Libya, plays a vital role in facilitating domestic and cross-border transactions for businesses and individuals. With growing transaction volumes and increasingly complex messaging environments, the bank required a more advanced solution to detect and prevent duplicate transactions, a critical risk area that can result in significant financial losses and reputational damage.

To address this, LFB partnered with Eastnets to upgrade from DDA 4.x to Eastnets Messaging Duplicate Detection 5.x (MDD 5.x), a next-generation solution designed to provide unparalleled protection and security against the costly consequences of duplicate transactions

Task

Overcoming legacy limitations in duplicate detection

While operating on DDA 4.x, LFB's operations and payments teams faced several key challenges:

  • Limited visibility into duplicate message details, with no ability to compare or highlight differences between flagged messages · No support for MX partial duplicate detection, making it difficult to handle ISO 20022 message formats effectively.

  • Lack of a 4-Eyes (maker-checker) workflow, reducing oversight on critical duplicate detection decisions.

  • The aging detection engine had performance constraints that could not keep pace with the bank's increasing transaction volumes.

  • No centralized user management with modern security features such as 2-Factor Authentication or granular permissions at the BIC/Unit/Category level.

The goal: LFB needed a modern, unified, and high-performance duplicate detection platform that could support current and future messaging formats while improving security, oversight, and operational efficiency.

Action

Upgrading to MDD 5.x — a modern duplicate detection platform

Eastnets worked closely with LFB to execute a smooth migration from DDA 4.x to Eastnets Messaging Duplicate Detection 5.x, delivering a number of enhancements

  • Unified user interface

A completely redesigned, single-pane interface merging administration, configuration management, duplicate manager, and message details into one cohesive platform.

  • Enhanced duplicate manager

With newly added search and export functionalities, enhanced duplicate message view with comparison and difference highlights, and structured view of MX messages.

  • MX partial duplicate support

Ability to dynamically import XSDs, select fields for partial checks (similar to MT), and support XSDs of different domestic networks.

  • 4-Eyes functionality

Implemented a maker-checker approval workflow for critical duplicate detection actions, providing better governance and oversight.

  • Modern user management

Deployed 2-Factor Authentication and granular user permissions on modules and messages (BIC/Unit/Category).

  • New detection engine

A refactored, Java-based detection engine achieving an average of 30 to 70 transaction checks per second, with enhanced performance and maintainability.

  • New ADK & connectors

Faster ADK deployment and new connectors (Push API, Pull API, MQ Connector), enabling integration with systems beyond Alliance Access.

  • Message encryption

All stored messages are now encrypted, strengthening data security and compliance posture.

  • Modern architecture

Built on state-of-the-art technology including Apache Kafka, ZooKeeper, and Vault, replacing legacy DDA_DBSRV and dda_config tools with new Java services.
